THE ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE to St. Peter's Linstead Magna took place on the last Sunday in June. We assembled at Church Farm and were entertained by a peal of bells. Using a portable 'belfry', Tracey and Holly Abell, together with other Team ringers, produced a very creditable peal on the 6 bells.. We then processed to the site of the church itself. Holly carried a photo to remind us what it looked like. The church itself was on the slight mound, about 15 yards behind her. Edward took the service, the singing was A Cappella and very lusty. We then processed back to the farm where a fine spread of tea awaited us. As ever we are grateful to the Abell family for their hospitality, to the bell ringers and to all who came along to support us. Super weather as well!
THE GLAMOUR OF HOLLYWOOD came to Linstead when we held our biennial flower festival, as our part of the 'Crossover' mission. The theme was the Hollywood Musicals and great ingenuity was shown in bringing these to Linstead and 'saying it with flowers'. There were twenty or so arrangements, these are just a sample: 'Singing in the Rain' Oklahoma, Sunset Boulevarde, Summertime, from Porgy & Bess and Annie get your Gun . This arrangement involved a wheelbarrow full of rocks to create a suitable desert scene! Refreshments were provided outside aided by a dedicated team of helpers. Our thanks are due to Val Bish who masterminded the event and did several arrangements, her talented team of arrangers as well as the caterers and all who came to visit. Almost as an incidental, the event raised over £400 for church funds. The weekend closed with a service of 'Floral Evensong', Songs of Praise and readings. The service was enlivened by smoke coming out of the organ, causing Jason to make dignified strategic withdrawal. The instrument was unplugged and later investigation suggested that The Phantom of the Opera had struck again in the form of a bit of water seeping in to the works. After being aloud to dry out, the organ was found to be unharmed!
CHEDISTON & LINSTEAD W.I. met in July to learn about the mysteries of Easter Island. Their next event is the annual garden meeting. This is on Tuesday, August 11th and is at 'Edgefields' by kind permission of Mrs Margaret Spurling.

A MAGNUM OPUS, of which I am rather proud, now resides in the church. A couple of years ago, a list of all the baptisms recorded since 1813 was put into a folder for visitors to refer to. We have now done the same for burials. In 1980, the W.I. in the persons of Jenny Berry and Pauline Keable, recorded all the inscriptions on the gravestones in the churchyard. This is an invaluable reference because several of those inscriptions are no longer legible; the effect of weather on stone being what it is. The new list to be found in the church details these together with all the burials, recorded in the register, but not marked with a stone. This is at least a third of the total number of burials. It also incorporates a plan of the graveyard with all the known burials marked on it.
SERVICES IN AUGUST comprise Matins on the 9th and Morning Prayer on the 23rd. On the 16th we visit Chediston for the monthly Village Service. All services are at 9.30 a.m.
