Worship at St Peter's Church, Spexhall
We believe the Church is there for all, at all times.
We are open ALL the time, 24 hours a day, and provide a calm and peaceful space for private worship or contemplation at any time. Prayers are said regularly for anyone who is named or mentioned on the prayer board at the back of church.
We provide a quiet area with candles and there are prayers available. Whilst part of the gently liberal Catholic tradition of the Team our worship tends towards the inclusion of some more informal and spiritual worship. We also hold exuberant ‘messy’ services such as the annual carol service with the school which combines organised chaos with a very real sense of the great mystery of our faith or the Easter service where solemn joyful worship is followed by irreverent Easter egg hunts, bonnet competitions and egg rolling!
Services
Services: We have two regular services a month, usually on the third Sunday (a Eucharist service at 11.15am) and fourth Sunday (lay led, either morning at 11.15am (winter) or evening at 6.30pm (summer) service. We use both Common Worship and Book of Common Prayer services on a rotating basis.
We are the Team's Agricultural Church. The Plough, which is on the south side of the chancel east of the choir, is blessed on Plough Sunday during January. A light is kept for St Wulfstan, a local saint, popular with farmers. We also celebrate Rogation, Lammas (the festival of the first fruits) and of course Harvest. Rogation is shared with Wissett and is always a good walk as well as a though provoking and prayerful reworking of a centuries old tradition.
We have good links with out local primary school, Ilketshall St Lawrence and go in regularly to take assemblies or special events. The children come to church for Christmas and for the summer term’s conservation day and often attend village and church events as well.
Weddings & Baptisms
We are a great church for a small family wedding click here for more information and we also host lots of very joyful baptisms. We also feel very privileged to celebrate the lives of village members, past and present at their funerals and memorial services. There is still room in the churchyard to be buried there at present or for ashes to be placed in our garden of remembrance.
We are always happy to visit you at home, or to visit someone at your request. We can provide friendship and a companion or deeper pastoral care as needed. We can administer the Eucharist at home if anyone requests it and are very happy to do so.
If you want to ask about anything in the church please do contact one of us.
If you want to ask informally about something before you talk to the clergy or if you know someone who would like a pastoral visit contact Jane Held, Lay Elder and Churchwarden on 01986 781318.
