Introducing Myself

Earlier last year I decided it was time for a new adventure. My eldest Son Julian had recently moved his family to Wissett and having looked around the area, I decided that Halesworth would be a good place to live. Once recovered from a hip operation I put my bungalow on the market and set about the task of moving, which was a challenge in more ways than one, after 42 years in the same place.

I have been a Reader in the Norwich diocese for a number of years having lived in a small benefice of three churches, Spixworth Costwick and St. Faiths, which is about six miles north of the city. I have another son, Timothy who lives and works in London.

I moved to Park Road in August and shortly afterwards joined St. Mary’s congregation where I received a warm welcome. Within a short space of time I found myself helping in the Sign of the Fish and on the Friends of Mary’s Committee, which has been a great way to integrate myself into a new community. I have also joined the local Mothers’ Union group as I have been a member of Mothers’ Union since the early eighties. Having started a branch in Spixworth twenty five years ago, I’ve held a number of roles including Diocesan President. I enjoy travel and when I was president elect I represented M. U. on a Norwich Diocesan visit to Papua New Guinea. That was an amazing experience, living in the bush cut off from the outside world, watching people reply on what they could produce in their gardens and bartering with neighbours for everyday items such as a piece of soap, totally changes ones perspective on life.

As I write this I’m looking forward to the New Year and new possibilities. There was a very definite gardening theme to my Christmas presents, so I have no excuse for not spending more time in the garden now that I have one which is manageable, and maybe I’ll get a cat (perhaps!!!)

I don’t know this area so there’s lots for me to explore, but most of all I look forward to getting to know the people and parishes in the Blyth Valley Team. As the popular hymn says “We are pilgrims on a journey, companions on the road. We are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load”.

Every Blessing

Win
